Extant's broad training programme takes the participant on a creative learning journey. Extant works: - to develop skills and opportunities for visually impaired artists and - to guide arts venues and services to become more accessible to blind and partially sighted audiences, performers and employees. Extant training workshops have included; writing for radio and the stage, improving performance skills in acting, dance, magic and clown work, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais and voice workshops. All Extant training is created in collaboration with steering groups made up of visually impaired people. Check the website or contact the team for more information on upcoming opportunities.
Extant is the opposite of extinct. Formed in 1997 Extant was the name chosen by a group of professional visually impaired artists, for the emergence of a new dynamic space, intended to redress their invisibility as artists and explore new creative territories. Since then Extant has: - Pioneered theatre practice with the express inclusion of visually impaired performers and audiences - Produced ground-breaking national tours - Toured our theatre productions internationally - Produced tours of the UK by international visually impaired artists - Led arts consultancies, seminars and research in access and technology; - Designed outdoor site-specific multi-sensory productions - Delivered training in education, business and the arts.
