Organisation: Streetwise Community Circus Workshops
Welcoming: All Disabilities ; Inclusive/Integrated
The Streetwise Samba Band have been beating their drums for 15 years and have had several line up changes over that time as old members go on to pastures new. Building on the success of this, SCCW are launching a new Samba Programme for individuals living with disabilities which commenced in February 2014. This new project aims to combine the skills of the Samba band with the skills and experience of SCCW's disability team making this art for accessible to individuals who would not have the opportunity . This is a pilot project to assess potential for future development throughout Northern Ireland.
Streetwise Community Circus Workshops (SCCW) aims to make circus skills accessible to people throughout Northern Ireland, irrespective of gender, age, disability, or economic, religious or cultural background, by providing circus workshops throughout the community run by teams of experienced tutors. SCCW provide its tutors with training in teaching circus skills, First Aid, child protection issues, disability awareness and Makaton, to make workshops an inclusive and safe environment for individuals to participate in circus skills. SCCW aims to make circus performing/teaching a viable and sustainable living for our members. It does this by providing members with clown and Samba training, providing directors for acts and providing facilities to help develop new high quality material to raise the standards in performance and creativity within the organisation's membership. SCCW aims to develop new markets for performers and circus workshops and increase existing markets by making acts and workshops available throughout Ireland.
